Are you doing what you’re suppose to be doing? Or a better question is do you know what you’re suppose to be doing? If you’re like most people, you go through grade school and then high school and you either went into the workforce or you went to a post secondary institution. Irregardless of what path you took the question remains: Are you doing what you are suppose to be doing? A lot of us are either unsure if what we are doing is what we were designed to do or we simply have no idea what we’re suppose to be doing.
By the time we’re half way through high school we should have an idea about how we can contribute most effectively to society in regards to an occupation. We should have a clear career path established by the time we reach grade 12 but in a lot of school systems this fundamental need is not being met. Now I think just about every school system has guidance counselors that do a fine job of helping kids that come to them find a career path. What I’m calling for is to step that up a notch. There should be mandatory classes that are geared toward discovering what the students passions and abilities are. Now I’m not saying that this is the teacher’s fault or the principal’s fault or the counselor’s fault. What I’m saying is that government needs to realize that this is vitally necessary to give kids a goal and vision in regards to their career. How many Einsteins or Bachs are left undiscovered in our society? I’ve talked to many a high school graduate who’s told me that they don’t know what they want to do in life. This is a dire tragedy!
